Deutsche Stars (the "App") is a child-safe German-learning adventure developed by Thalath Memat. We are committed to protecting the privacy of our young learners (primarily ages 8–14) and providing a safe, secure, and educational environment.
This Privacy Policy explains our data collection, usage, and security practices.
1. Compliance and Child Safety
Deutsche Stars is designed from the ground up to be compliant with:
- COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act)
- GDPR-K (General Data Protection Regulation for Children)
We do not collect, store, or share any personal information from children without appropriate parental consent. All purchasing options, premium content offers, and teacher configuration screens are strictly locked behind an adult-verification Parent Gate.
2. No Data Collection and Local Storage
We believe that what happens on a child's device should stay on that device.
- Local Data Only: All learner profiles (avatar choice, user nickname, CEFR progress, and lesson history) are stored entirely on the local device's storage.
- No Account Registration: Learners are not required to create an account, log in, or provide email addresses or phone numbers to use the App.
- No Network Uploads: Progress data is never uploaded to our servers or any cloud database.
- Data Deletion: Parents can permanently delete all learner progress, profiles, and configuration settings at any time directly from the settings menu.
3. Sensor and Device Permissions
To support learning activities, the App requests specific hardware permissions. These are processed entirely locally:
Microphone Access (Pronunciation Practice)
- Use Case: Used for the "Magic Mirror" feature, allowing learners to hear their own voice and practice German pronunciation.
- Privacy Assurance: Audio is recorded into a temporary, session-only memory buffer. It is processed locally on the device.
- Immediate Deletion: The audio recording is immediately deleted when the learner navigates away from the practice screen or closes the App. Voice recordings are never stored persistently on the device, nor are they ever transmitted over the network.
4. No Ads, Analytics, or Tracking
To guarantee a focused and secure learning environment:
- No Third-Party Advertising: There are no ads in the App. We do not use advertising identifiers (like Google AD_ID or Apple IDFA).
- No Analytics Tracking: We do not include third-party tracking or analytics SDKs (e.g., Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, Flurry, etc.).
- No Location Tracking: The App does not access GPS or any location sensors.
5. Offline Teacher Tools & CEFR Passport
The App includes optional tools for teachers and educators to coordinate offline:
- QR Assignments: Teachers can share assignments locally via QR codes.
- CEFR Passport: Progress reports can be exported locally as a PDF.
- Anonymity: All exported files and data payloads are completely anonymous and contain no direct identifiers or personal data.
6. Store Purchases and External Links
All monetization elements (such as subscriptions or one-time purchases) use the standard, secure billing systems of the App Store and Google Play Store:
- Transactions are processed securely by Apple and Google.
- The entry point to any store screen is protected by a Parent Gate.
- No payment information is collected, processed, or stored by Thalath Memat.
